National Register extract or copy

Ahpra keeps a list of every health practitioner who is registered to practise in Australia across 15 professions. The list is called the ‘Register of practitioners’. A request can be made for an extract from one or more registers of practitioners and the process to do so is outlined below. Extracts of a national register can be requested from December 2019 onwards, and are charged per extract per board. The data is provided in an Excel file, which is transferred to the customer via secure file transfer protocol (SFTP). To receive an extract or copy, customers must enter into a data agreement with Ahpra and pay the associated fees.

Ahpra applies a high level of scrutiny when assessing requests for copies of the national Register of practitioners, to remain compliant with our obligations under the National Law.

Extract requests

  • A request for an extract provides a selected portion of the data available from a professions register of practitioners and should be limited to the information required for your purpose. For example a request for registration records relating to a particular state or territory based on the Principle Place of Practice (PPP).
  • An extract is substantially and materially less than a full copy of the national Register of practitioners for a particular profession.

Copy requests

  • A copy of the national Register of practitioners will include every registration record published to the Register for a particular profession, across all states and territories.
  • Under the National Law, Ahpra may only provide a copy of a register if it is in the public interest to do so. If you are requesting a copy of the Register for one or more professions, your application will be reviewed to determine if it is in the public interest. If it is found to be in the public interest, the register(s) copies will be provided upon payment of the associated fee.

Please note: A copy of the register cannot be shared with another organisation or used for any other purpose than that for which it is requested.

There are fewer restrictions on the use of extracts of the Register and this information may be shared with other organisations, subject to the conditions of the data agreement between Ahpra and the customer.

Fees

For both extracts and copies, a fee of $2000 per board per point in time applies.
