Be safe in the knowledge

... you're seeing a registered health practitioner

We are the National Boards and AHPRA. Together, we work to keep you safe.

We regulate 16 registered health professions. Practitioners must meet our standards to be registered. For example, they must have approved qualifications and continue to learn and develop their skills.

We have a free online register that anyone can use to look up a health practitioner. We also help with concerns about health practitioners and their services.

How you're protected

We make sure that registered health practitioners:

  • have approved qualifications and training
  • continue to learn and develop their skills
  • pass a criminal history check
  • have recent and relevant experience
  • do not have a health impairment that will affect the care they provide you, and
  • have professional indemnity cover.

When you see a registered health practitioner you should expect:

  • to be treated with dignity and respect
  • professional evidence-based care
  • clear and helpful information, and
  • a safe place to ask questions and get a second opinion if you want
