To support consistent and contemporary accreditation of health practitioner education, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice, Chinese medicine, medical radiation practice and podiatry accreditation committees have published their updated standards.
Accreditation standards are used to assess whether a program of study provides graduates of the program with the knowledge, skills and professional attributes to register to practise the profession in Australia. Accreditation standards are also used for monitoring accredited programs to ensure the program continues to meet the standards.
‘The standards now include increased focus on cultural safety and work-integrated learning to support patient centred care across the professions,’ said Professor Vivienne Chuter, Chair of the Podiatry Accreditation Committee.
The updated accreditation standards incorporate current and emerging trends in health practitioner education and practice and reflect relevant amendments to the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (the National Law).
‘The new standard five reflects current issues in health practice and aims to ensure that graduates are equipped with the capabilities required for safe and contemporary practice,’ said Dr Suzi Mansu, Chair of the Chinese Medicine Accreditation Committee.
The accreditation committees would like to thank stakeholders who participated in the consultation processes for the review of the standards.
