Nursing and midwifery renewal late fee waived until 15 June

16 May 2025

To give nurses and midwives more time to complete their renewal in the new Ahpra portal, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia has waived late fees for practitioners who renew before 15 June.

Nurses and midwives remain registered – and can continue to work – until 30 June and if they renew before 15 June, they will not pay a late fee.

While more than 200,000 nurses and midwives (more than a third of the workforce) have successfully renewed their registration, some practitioners are needing more support – and time – to set up their Ahpra portal and renew. The additional two weeks gives nurses and midwives that extra time without worrying about a late fee.

Practitioners are encouraged to visit the online portal help centre for step-by-step guides, videos and troubleshooting tips for setting up their portal.

Ahpra has also extended the customer service team hours, which are now 8am to 8pm AEST to better support this 24/7 workforce.

Ahpra is working closely with employers and other stakeholders nationwide, to support nurses and midwives to renew.
