Public consultation now open - draft guidance on embedding good practice in clinical placements, simulation-based learning and virtual care in student health practitioner education

29 Apr 2024

The Accreditation Committee (the committee) is seeking feedback on its draft guidance on embedding good practice in clinical placements, simulation-based learning and virtual care in initial student health practitioner education.

Committee Chair Professor Andrew Wilson said the guidance will support improvements in these important components of every health practitioner’s initial education.

‘We want to ensure that our student health practitioners have access to high quality clinical placements, simulation-based learning and virtual care educational experiences,’ Professor Wilson said.

‘These activities enable students to develop the capabilities they need for contemporary practice, and to safely and competently deliver patient-centred care,” said Professor Wilson.

The draft guidance provides an overview of evidence-based strategies for continuous improvement of student learning and draws on the best available evidence identified at the time of writing.

The aim of the guidance is to help National Scheme entities, in particular National Boards and accreditation authorities, improve student education in these areas.

Feedback will help ensure the guidance is relevant and useful to key entities in the National Scheme, including accreditation authorities and National Boards.

Beyond the National Scheme, the committee hopes that the guidance will be useful for education providers, as well as stakeholders in the self-regulating professions.’

I invite everyone to provide feedback on the draft guidance,’ Professor Wilson said.

Consultation on the draft guidance opens today and runs till close of business (AEST) Friday, 21 June 2024.
