Statement by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia

21 Oct 2014

Mr David Lance Lahey – reprimanded and disqualified from applying for registration as a nurse.

The Tasmanian Health Practitioners Tribunal has reprimanded enrolled nurse Mr David Lance Lahey and disqualified him from applying for registration as a nurse in Australia for five years from 3 October 2013.

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia prosecuted its case against Mr Lahey in the Tribunal after he was convicted of forging prescriptions and possessing a restricted substance in April 2013. He did not inform his then-employer that he had been charged. Mr Lahey surrendered his registration on 3 October 2013.

The Board referred the matter to the tribunal on the grounds that his actions amounted to professional misconduct. Mr Lahey did not participate in the tribunal proceedings.

The Tribunal found that Mr Lahey had engaged in professional misconduct.

The Tribunal handed down this decision on 24 September.
