Video introducing the Australian occupational therapy competency standards is available

18 Feb 2019

The Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (the Board) has produced and published a new animated video introducing the Australian occupational therapy competency standards.

The Australian occupational therapy competency standards (the competency standards) have been in effect since 1 January 2019. This video provides an overview of the competency standards which focus on four conceptual areas of occupational therapy practice:

  1. Professionalism
  2. Knowledge and learning
  3. Occupational therapy process and practice
  4. Communication

The competency standards apply to all occupational therapists working across all practice settings, including research, education, management and other roles not involving direct contact with clients.

The Board has published the new competency standards, including resources that can be used within practice settings on the webpage: Australian occupational therapy competency standards.

The new animated video is the latest resource produced by the Board to support the effective implementation of the competency standards.

The Board is continuing its work on the development of supporting tools to help occupational therapists, students, employers, members of the public and others understand and apply the competency standards.
