Check if your health practitioner is qualified, registered and their current registration status

Employer Services

You can check the registration details and status of your employees using one of the following services:

  1. Register of Practitioners
  2. Practitioner information exchange
  3. Multiple Registration Checks
  4. Convert pre-Ahpra Registration Numbers
  5. Late Period

The National register of practitioners provides accurate, up-to-date information about the registration status of all registered health practitioners in Australia.

1. Register of Practitioners

This is a free service where you can check the registration details of a practitioner, one at a time. If you want to check the registration details of a few employees only, it may be quicker to check individually using the Register of Practitioners.

2. Practitioner information exchange

PIE offers the benefits of a health practitioner data source with a SSL-secure SOAP web interface to provide a simple interfacing capability in single record, batch, or alert modes. More information is available on the PIE solution overview and services offered page.

3. Multiple Registration Checks

Please note that this service is currently being reviewed and we are not onboarding new customers, except in exceptional circumstances.

Additionally, please be advised that a limit on the number of practitioners that can be queried per MRC check will be introduced in the near future. Current users will be advised of this shortly, prior to the change. If your contact details are out of date, we urge you to contact us to update them by emailing [email protected] and include in the subject line “MRC – update contact details”.

Current users will be advised of the outcome of the MRC review, which will include terms and conditions of use and a usage fee introduced. This fee is required to ensure that Ahpra is able to cover the costs of providing, maintaining and improving the MRC service.

4. Convert pre-Ahpra Registration Numbers

On 1 July 2010, Ahpra issued a new registration number to every health practitioner registered in Australia.  The new number replaces any registration number issued by any of the previous state-based boards. The employee registration number look-up provides a quick way to obtain the new Ahpra-issued registration number of each health practitioner employed by your organisation.

The registration details will be sent to the email address that you have registered with Ahpra. You should check your email address and update it if incorrect, before submitting your request online.

5. Is my employee in the late period?

When you search the Registers of Practitioners you will see that every registrant has a registration expiry date. On some occasions, you may observe that a registrant still has a status of registered, and yet their registration expiry date is in the past.

The National Law provides for a one month late period for renewals. This means that registrants have until one month after their registration expiry date to apply for renewal.

Once the registrant has applied for renewal of registration, the registration remains in force until a decision is made.

If a registrant has not made an application for renewal within the late period, then Ahpra will regard their registration as lapsed, and remove them from the register. Ahpra will also write to former registrants to advise them of this action.
